About Me: Declan

Hello! I'm Declan O'Neill, and I'm a senior majoring in engineering at Harvey Mudd. I joined ICEX this summer and have been primarily working on building an experimental setup with a controllable robotic prey fish that will eventually be used to study predator-prey interactions. I've also been working with Yoo-Jin on a custom controller for the AUV and am excited to see it in action in the field!

About Me: Yoo-Jin Hwang

Hello, my name is Yoo-Jin Hwang and I graduated Harvey Mudd College in Engineering in 2022. I recently joined LAIR in my last spring semester. I am currently working on hydrophone cowling design and simulation, helping out with a particle filter for shark tracking, and was working on electrical debugging to integrate the hydrophones into the robot. Now, I am working on integrating P control on the robot. I am excited to deploy in Costa Rica!

Our First All-Team Outing!

On Wednesday, June 15, the LAIR + SotoLab Team went out to a Dodger-Angel Game! The Dodgers won 4-1, barely missing a shut-out. On the ride home, the team belted out nostalgic songs in the car. It was a great bonding experience!

Welcome to ICEX 2022!

Clark, Christopher | College News | Harvey Mudd College

Hello and Welcome! My name is Chris and I have been a Professor for 16 years with research and teaching focussing on robotics and autonomy. I will act as the robotics PI (Principle Investigator) on our international robotics field work. This will be our 13th year running an international research collaboration under the ICEX program umbrella, but this will be the first time our work attempts to bring our AUV shark tracking technology to another country.

About Me: Caitlyn

Hello there! My name is Caitlyn Ossa and I am a junior at Harvey Mudd College majoring in Engineering. I transferred to HMC from Scripps College under the 3-2 Engineering Program and have been a part of ICEX since December 2020. I am currently working on the implementation and execution of our Rx-Live Acoustic Transceiver for migration tracking and a LoRaWAN Radio Network for multi-AUV communication. I am excited to work with CSULB and UCR and look forward to the many memories I will create with this amazing team!

This is Us!

The ICEX team, a part of HMC LAIR, is working with California State University Long Beach and the University of Costa Rica to create, implement, and utilize a multi-AUV system with the end goal of tracking migratory patterns of nurse sharks and sea turtles in Costa Rica. In doing so, we hope to gain better insights into the patterns and behaviors of these animals to better strategize conservation efforts.
